Can Science Know the Mind of God? The Case Against Naturalism
Philip Johnson
Princeton University
1 January 1996
A unified theory, says physicist Stephen Hawking, would be the ultimate triumph of human reason and would allow us to "know the mind of God." Philip Johnson begins his talk by pointing out that such a theory would allow humans not to know the mind of God, but rather to be omniscient. Dr. Johnson proceeds to give his audience a guided tour of the history of Darwin's ideas of evolution and their ramifications and implications in present day society. Ultimately, Johnson provides convincing arguments against the "scientific game" that assumes a materialistic reality in its pursuit of an explanation of the universe and exposes many of the problems of evolutionary theory.
