Sola Scriptura Debate!!

Join Devin and Melissa Pellew each week at they discuss topics related to biblical theology, Christian apologetics and worldview issues. This week, we had a very interesting dialogue between a Roman Catholic apologist and a Protestant apologist on the topic of "Sola Scriptura". Is the Bible the only infallible rule of faith for the Church? We will explore this question and others related to the topic with Devin Rose, blogger and former atheist turned Catholic apologist and Nathanael Taylor, graduate of Biola University, Westminster Theological Seminary and current philosophy student at Talbot School of Theology. Please join us for this very engaging and respectful crossfire dialog, featuring an important topic of discussion, which has been ongoing for the last 2,000 years.

SOLA SCRIPTURA DEBATE

This debate between a former Roman Catholic now turned Protestant & a former Protestant now turned Roman Catholic . The debaters: representing the "Sola Scriptura" (the "Scriptures Alone" & nothing else) position is Rob Zins, Th.M, Dallas Theological Seminary (website: CWRC-RZ ORG), former Roman Catholic, author of the books, "On the Edge of Apostasy -The Evangelical Romance with Rome," "Romanism: The Relentless Roman Catholic Assault on the Gospel of Jesus Christ," "I Am a Christian. Perhaps You are Not. Is This a Big Deal?", editor of the newsletter "Theo-Logical", conference speaker, director of "A Christian Witness to Roman Catholics," & special guest with Larry Wessels in the 16 hour video series posted on YOUTUBE entitled, "ROMAN CATHOLICISM SERIES." Representing the Roman Catholic position which elevates Roman Catholic traditions & rituals to the same level as the Scriptures (the Bible) is former Protestant now turned Roman Catholic Gerry Matatics. According to Wikipedia Mr Matatics is a Sedevacantist apologist (Sedevacantism is the position held by a minority of Traditionalist Catholics who claim that the Papal See has been vacant since either the death of Pope Pius XII in 1958 or Pope John XXIII in 1963. Sedevacantists believe that Paul VI (1963--1978), John Paul I (1978), John Paul II (1978--2005) and Benedict XVI (since 2005) have been neither true Catholics nor true Popes, by virtue of allegedly having espoused the heresy of Modernism, or of having otherwise denied or contradicted solemnly defined Catholic dogmas. Some of them classify John XXIII (1958--1963) also as a Modernist antipope.) for what he's termed "consistent Catholicism" as opposed to "counterfeit Catholicism" (referring to mainstream Catholicism).

Prior to his conversion to Catholicism he was an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). He used to work for Karl Keating, as part of his "Catholic Answers" apologist team. Mr Matatics taught as a professor in St. Joseph's University, the Notre Dame Pontifical Catechetical Institute, and served for three years as Professor of Sacred Scripture and Apologetics at Our Lady of Guadalupe International Seminary of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in Scranton, Pennsylvania, before becoming a Sedevacantist

Is the Roman Catholic Doctrine of the Virgin Mary Biblical?

Is the Roman Catholic Doctrine of the Virgin Mary Biblical or Not?

The Debaters: James White, Th.D., is director of ministries for Alpha & Omega Ministries, a Christian apologetics organization based in Phoenix, Arizona, (website -AOMIN.ORG) & an adjunct professor with Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary's Arizona campus. He is also professor of apologetics with Columbia Evangelical Seminary, and a critical consultant for the Lockman Foundation on the New American Standard Bible update. James is a published author of many books including "Mary - Another Redeemer?" published by Bethany House Publishers. Robert Fastiggi, Ph.D. is professor of religious studies at Saint Edward's University in Austin, Texas. He is a published author & a Roman Catholic apologist. Mark Gunning is the moderator.

In his celebration of the Marian Year in Rome in 1950, Pope Pius XII accurately reflected the Roman Catholic Church's view of the Virgin Mary in his pontifical prayer: "Enraptured by the splendor of your heavenly beauty and impelled by the anxieties of the world, we cast ourselves into your arms, Oh Immaculate Mother of Jesus and our Mother. Mary ... we adore and praise the peerless richness of the sublime gifts with which God has lifted you above every other mere creature, from the moment of your conception until the day on which after your assumption into heaven, He crowned you Queen of the Universe. Oh crystal fountain of faith, bathe our minds with the eternal truths. Oh fragrant lily of all holiness, captivate our hearts with your heavenly perfume. Oh Conqueress of evil and death ... Receive, Oh sweet Mother, our humble supplications and above all, obtain for us that on that day, happy with you, we may repeat before your throne that hymn which is sung today around your altars. You are all beautiful Oh Mary. You are Glory, you are the Joy, you are the Honor of our people."

The Roman Church has elevated the Virgin Mary according to the following declarations:
1. Mary is the "Mother of God"
2. Mary had an "Immaculate Conception"
3. Mary has "Perpetual Virginity"
4. Mary is the "Co-Redemptrix & Mediatrix of All Graces"
5. Mary experienced "Assumption into Heaven"
6. Mary is the "Queen of Heaven"

Deuteronomy 5:7-9 states, "Thou shalt have none other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord am a jealous God, visiting the inquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me."

DOES ROMAN CATHOLICISM PREACH A DIFFERENT GOSPEL?

Larry Wessels, director of Christian Answers of Austin, Texas (YouTube channel: CANSWERSTV, see websites: BIBLEQUERY ORG, HISTORYCART COM & MUSLIMHOPE COM) debates Roman Catholic scholar Dr. Robert Fastiggi of Saint Edward's University located in Austin, Texas on the question of whether the Roman Catholic Church preaches the same Gospel as the Bible does or does it preach a man-made counterfeit. The apostle Paul gave a tremendous warning and threat in Galatians 1: 6-9 concerning the importance of preaching the correct Gospel because the consequence for preaching a false Gospel is eternal damnation for the preacher and his followers ("I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."). This is part 1 of a fast-paced and fiery 2 part debate (also known as the "Reformation Debate"). The differences between the two debaters in this theological war could not be greater. One can then understand why the great Reformer Martin Luther in church history had said, "Previously I said the Pope was the Vicar of Christ. I recant. Now I say the Pope is the adversary of Christ and the apostle of the Devil". Virtually all of the historic confessions of faith of the major Protestant denominations hold that the Pope is the very Anti-Christ mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12.

Monastery & Rome Crisis

How often do you hear the word ‘holy’ flippantly used in today’s culture? Luther understood the significance of this word. R.C. Sproul expounds on Luther’s inability to reconcile his guilt with God’s holiness through the Roman church’s traditions and practices.

The Cross of Christ: 2006 Fall Conferences

Message 10, Justification by Faith Alone:

This Message is from the Conference The Cross of Christ: 2006 Fall Conferences.

About the Conference, The Cross of Christ: 2006 Fall Conferences

As the Good Shepherd, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ willingly laid down His life for the sake of His sheep (John 10:11). All of history revolves around this event, so we must strive to understand its significance.

In this collection from the 2006 fall conference series, R.C. Sproul, along with Ligon Duncan, Derek Thomas, and Albert Mohler, examines Christ’s work on the cross and remind us that it is the centerpiece of God’s redemption. Beginning with man’s need for atonement, they discuss the identity of those Jesus came to save, look at how He ransoms us from God’s curse, and answer common questions about the meaning of the crucifixion.

Dr.s John Macarthur, RC Sproul and James Kennedy are interview by John Ankerberg!

Scripture Alone Part 2

The debate over the authority of Scripture has been ongoing for centuries. According to the Roman Church, Scripture is supplemented by tradition, a second source of revelation. Protestants assert that Scripture is the sole source of revelation.

Scripture Alone Part 1

Glory to God Alone (Part 1)

Among the great themes of the Protestant Reformation, there was none emphasized so much as the glory of God. The Reformers sought to emphasize the eternal glory of God in everything they spoke and wrote.
