The apostle Paul gave a tremendous warning and threat in Galatians 1: 6-9 concerning the importance of preaching the correct Gospel because the consequence for preaching a false Gospel is eternal damnation for the preacher and his followers ("I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."). This is part 1 of a fast-paced and fiery 2 part debate (also known as the "Reformation Debate"). The differences between the two debaters in this theological war could not be greater. One can then understand why the great Reformer Martin Luther in church history had said, "Previously I said the Pope was the Vicar of Christ. I recant. Now I say the Pope is the adversary of Christ and the apostle of the Devil". Virtually all of the historic confessions of faith of the major Protestant denominations hold that the Pope is the very Anti-Christ mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12.
